Yesterday’s News

3 big things happened yesterday that we’d been waiting for, and as usual, my life always equals out.  If you’ve ever seen that Seinfeld episode, you know what I’m talking about.  If you haven’t, buy me the Seinfeld DVDs and I’ll let you come over and watch it.

1. Upper - Emily got a clean bill of health from the cardiologist.  He said everything looks normal.  Actually, what he said originally was that she needed to come back in 6 months, because the hole was still in her heart.  That was of course before a nurse came rushing in to give him the medical records of our daughter instead of the records of the other Emily in the other room.  So, she’s good to go, unless of course, she decides to join the scuba diving team in high school, which the doctor suggested she come back in to check it out again.  I haven’t discussed this with Anne, but mixing up Emilys & thinking that high schools have scuba diving teams is justification for us never entering that cardiologists office ever again.

2. Evener - Anne’s doctor got the results of her MRI, but wouldn’t give them out over the phone.  Anne’s a little worried about it, but the nurse said they aren’t able to do that, because then we wouldn’t be giving them their $15 co-pay.  Actually, it has something to do with privacy.  Anyway, the nurse told Anne she could come in today or next week some time, so I took that as a good sign.

3. Downer - I didn’t pass the National Board Certification process for the 2nd year in a row which comes with an $8000 per year bonus (that’s $16,000 if you’re counting).  It’s almost humorous in a sadistic sort of way.  Read this for yourselves and then take a look at the two pictures below.

On behalf of the board of directors of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, thank you for your continuing dedication and hard work in pursuing National Board Certification. To achieve certification, a candidate must earn a total weighted scaled score that equals or exceeds 275, the performance standard established by the board of directors as the basis for awarding National Board Certification. Your score report indicates that your total weighted scaled score does not yet meet the performance standard.

God’s still good.  I remind myself that the $16,000 (You know you would have gotten $1600 back, Lord.) wasn’t my money to begin with, so I haven’t really lost anything other than the time it took to prepare and the time I wasted clicking on the National Board website for over an hour yesterday, trying to get through.

Just coming home yesterday and looking at my family, I realized how incredibly blessed we are.  It makes being a loser and apparently a moron a whole lot more pleasant.  God has taken complete care of us in the past, and I know he will continue to do so.  He is faithful.  Yesterday I had the thought come to mind that if I’m going to tell others to trust God, then I have to do that myself.  It’s almost weird to say this, but I’m sort of glad for the test - God asking if I really trust him.  I can’t wait to see how he provides.  It’s all part of the adventure of a life with Him.
