Christmas Carol Encore Mixer

We did this variation of the Encore Mixer which includes a Scategories-type list.

After we split them up into 2 – 3 groups, we give each group a piece of paper & pencil. They are given 1 – 2 minutes to write down as many Christmas Carols as they can think of. Then, one by one, they have to sing at least 8 words of a song on their list. If another group has that same song, they all have to cross it off their list.

The team with the most original Christmas Carols on their list at the end is the winner.

This is from the board game Encore.

Split the crowd into 2 to 4 groups and yell out a word that you’ve thought about ahead of time. It needs to be a word that would be in a lot of songs. Then, starting with one group, they have to sing (as a group) at least 8 words of a song that contains the given word. And, the given word must be a part of the portion they sing.

I got 5 paper bags from my local grocery store. Then I came home and made sure to put the same exact things in each bag. I think I used a couple magazines, some paper clips, pencils, newspaper, straws, and some empty toilet paper rolls, but you could really use all kinds of stuff.

Split the crowd into 5 groups and give them 2 minutes to build the tallest, free-standing tower with only the supplies they are given.

This is super easy to set up and the kids had a great time with it. All we did was take the front of several food boxes (cereal, cookies, crackers, etc.) and cut them up into 20 pieces. Every kid is given a piece and when the music starts, they have to find other people with the same box. Then, in those groups, they have to put the puzzle together. You can’t have two of the same brand box, but having 2 or more boxes that are the same color makes it really challenging.

Come on, you know there’s someone out there who’s never seen this, so I figured I’d include it as one of my mixer posts.

Here’s how it works.

Line the kids up in at least 2 equal lines.
Give everyone a toothpick. We made it more interesting by pretending we didn’t have enough, so we broke them in two. Don’t worry, there’s still enough room to make sure they don’t kiss, but things got dicey.
Have the kids each put their toothpicks in their mouths & put a life saver on the first kids toothpick.
When the music starts (gotta have some good passing music), have them pass the lifesavers from one kid in line to the next.
If it drops on the floor, they have to pick it up and put it back on the person who was passing it’s toothpick.
No hands allowed unless they’re picking it up off the floor.
The first team done wins.
